Operation Sunshine 2024
The summer might not be what we’ve hoped for up until now, but the Hastings’ Police’s annual ‘Operation Sunshine’ has been in full swing for the last two weeks. The operation takes place during July and August every year and aims to keep Hastings town centre as free as possible of crime and anti-social behaviour during the daytime so that shoppers and tourists can enjoy the area. A man who repeatedly stole from shops and cars in Hastings and Bexhill has been banned from the town centre and also from supermarkets across the borough. On Wednesday (7 October) Brighton Magistrates’ Court imposed a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) on Scott Starr, 41, of no fixed address, following his conviction for a theft from Marks and Spencer in Hastings in February this year. While executing a drugs warrant in West View, Hastings, in October last year police seized quantities of cannabis, cocaine and cash which led to 19-year-old occupant Jake Wallace being charged with possessing class A and B drugs with intent to supply. On 12 June Wallace, unemployed, appeared at Lewes Crown Court and admitted the offences. He was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £140. Convicted drug dealer Allan Finn from Westfield, near Hastings, has started a six-year sentence for his crimes following a two-day trial at Lewes Crown Court. Finn, 32, a window cleaner, had denied being concerned in the supply of crack cocaine and cannabis but on Wednesday 12 June he was found guilty. He was sentenced to six years for the cocaine offence and three years for the cannabis offence, to run concurrently.
